Create Block Definition

Home tab > Block panel > Create



Name: Chair



Base point: Pick point



Pick the midpoint of the front line



Retain option

Objects: Retain
Behavior: Allow Exploding
Description: Desk Chair
Click Select objects



Cross-select the chair



9 objects selected
An image display beside the block name
Click OK



All parts of chair remain separate

Convert to Block option



Add a line below the arc



Name: Home Chair
Pick the same base point
Objects: Convert to Block
Check Scale uniformly
Description: Home chair with cushion
Clock Select objects



Cross-select the chair



10 objecte selected
An image display beside the block name
Click OK



All objects group into one
A grip show the insert point of the block

Delete option


Delete the right and left edges
Draw arcs by Start-End-Radius 1100



Start the blcok Create command
Name: ECO Chair
Pick the same base point
Objects: Delete
Uncheck both Scale uniformly & Allow Exploding
Description: Office chair with ECO leather
Click Select objects



Cross-select all parts of the chair



10 objects selected
An image display beside the block name
Click OK

The block delete from the drawing




Create another block
Name: Door
Base point: lower-right corner of the rectangle
Objects: Convert to Block

Object Options

Retain: Retain the geometries as seaprate, so can modify and create another similar blcok
Convert to Block: Use the block after created
Delete: Delete block from the drawing, so got more space to draw or create blocks


Insert Block

Set the current layer to Furniture


Home tab > Block panel > Insert - More Options


Name: Chair


Uncheck Uniform Scale
X: 1.5
Angle: 90


Insert the block


Set the current layer to Drafting


Name: Home Chair
X: 1.5 (Uniform Scale is locked)
Angle: -90


Insert the chair


Set current layer to Desk


Name: ECO Chair
Rotation: Specify on screen


Pick a point
Rotate angle by object snap override Parallel

Parallel to the reception desk

Write Block

Write blcok outside the current drawing as global block
Can be insert into any drawing

Insert tab > Block Definition panel > Write Block


Source: Block


Destination: Any location in the harddisk

Editing Block

Edit the block definition and update the instances of the block within the drawing

Open Ex 07.1-Start.dwg

Home tab > Block panel > Insert - More Options


Click Browse


Navigate to the file location


Select Chair.dwg


Path location display to show that this is a global block
Angle: 180


Insert the chair below the desk 20 cm from the midpoint


Insert 2 more chairs above the desk


Double-click any chair to bring out "Edit Block Definition" gialog box
Click OK


Block Editor open
All other objects disappear except the chair
The Chair block become separate for editing
Add 2 Arm-rest:
Rectangle 70 x 250
Fillet all corners @ R30


Close panel > Close Block Editor


Click "Save the changes to Chair"


The instances of the block updated to show the changes

Redefine Block

Redefine block by global block

Start Write Block command



Select the existing block
Destination: Any location in the harddisk
Click OK



Click "Replace the existing ..."

Navigate to the drawing that created the 1st Chair block


Home tab > Block panel > Insert - More Options



Click Browse



Navigate to the location where you write the block



Path display to show this is a golbal block
Rotation: Specify on screen



Click Redefine block



The blocks with the same name updated to the new design



Insert the chair in front of the reception by parallel object snap



Insert another chair
